Bryan, this is absolutely fascinating - what a terrific read about one of my favourite subjects (by which I mean cheese). That stuff doesn't stick around long enough for me to read my fortune in it, my tummy is delighted to confirm, but I feel I owe it to myself to give dairy-based tyromancy a whirl.
My brother lives very close to - of all things - a cheese vending machine in the depths of rural Dorset. We LOVE it when he comes to visit.... 🙌
Very glad you enjoyed it, Rebecca! And we, too, rarely have any cheeses that last long enough to provide a prophecy - but after Christmas I was clearing out the refrigerator and when I emptied the cheese box (yes, we're serious about cheese) found a goat's cheese that had been there for far too long ... not sure what the mould was telling me, but next time I'll ask it a question!
Now, as for a cheese vending machine ... I don't think I've ever heard of anything as wonderful. I'd be stopping by every other day just to pick up a little something ...
Oh gosh, that goats' cheese must've pretty much grown legs, Bryan!
The vending machine is incredible - it's at the place where they make the famous Dorset Blue Vinny cheese, which is absolutely delicious. Here's the link if you'd like to take a look: https://www.dorsetblue.com/pop-up-shop
I once took a mozzarella-making class at Murray’s in NYC, and the instructor said: “The history of cheese making can be stated in five words - “and they ate it anyway.”
I had no idea! I always count on learning something new from your Substack. Thanks for this bit of knowledge!
You are certainly welcome! Glad you liked it - I only found out about this because of an article I chanced upon. It's amazing, what's out there!

That's amazing. I'm not sure what I thought 'vending machine' really meant - but it wasn't that cool!
What a friend we have in cheeses.

We’re in the car heading to the Nettlebed Creamery right now for lunch and a walk. Gorgeous cheeses!
I have always believed in cheeses.
Oh, yes. Am at this moment heading to the Nettlebed Creamery for a toastie at their Cheese Shed! 🧀
