I have been driving by the Walton War historical marker for years and never made the time to learn the story behind it. The States have gone through a lot to remain "United." The next 100+ days here are going to be interesting. One hopes events like the Wilmington massacre are a thing of the distant past but I feel there are many people with thoughts of a new uprising simmering just below the surface of civility.

I love hearing about your experience with our local library. We are fortunate it has the local support from which we can all benefit.

We should all be concerned about what comes out of the next 100 days. If you can carve out any new podcast time I recommend Rachel Maddow's "Ultra." Fascism in the US has roots.

I drove by it for years, too. I'm not sure why I suddenly thought of it, but when I started looking into it I found it really interesting. I spent a couple of hours at the TC Library when Fin and I were in Brevard, up in the NC Room. The librarian was ridiculously helpful - seriously, she defined the role. She located a couple of books and a monograph I'd have never found anywhere else, and was more than happy to scan pages and email them to me. It took her half an hour and it was ... free. THAT is what research should be - and I've got to sing the praises of that institution which, I'm afraid, is susceptible to the culture wars brewing all around.

I'm very concerned about the way things are going over there - those people with 'thoughts of a new uprising' are really out of their depth, intellectually, but that's what makes them so dangerous. Idiots with guns blindly following a Dear Leader who's only asset is the validation of assholery is a profoundly bad combination ...
