I never got into the Dead. I think I associated it with my parents’ generation. You don’t say whether you like them or not Bryan. Listening to your playlist now with my morning reading.

Oh, yes. I really like them - have since the 80s when I first properly heard them. I love(d) that they provided the primary soundtrack to the counterculture of the 60s/70s - at the time, my favourite period of American history (actually, it still is my favourite period) - and their existence as a constant reminder of this. I particularly liked their connection to Ken Kesey, et al. I never actually saw them - at that point my interest in psychedelia leaned more Floyd - and when I was at a point where I would have gladly spent a long hazy weekend, I was finishing up my master's thesis and (wisely, I thought) decided to forgo the shows they were playing just down the road in Chapel Hill. My logic was that I could stay focussed AND see them the next time around ... but then Garcia died and, well, that was that. Hope you like the playlist!

Thanks, Bryan! There’s also a boatload of live Dead material at the Internet Archive (archive.org).

Saw them live a number of times in the 70s. There were shows where they were brilliant and shows where they sucked (usually by playing so slow they’d fall apart), but it was always an experience.
