Paul's underrated in many ways - I think you're right about the guitar on the title track. He also scored the orchestra bits and - despite a move towards schmaltz in his Wings-era stuff - was a serious guiding light for the band at this time.
Sgt Pepper was never my favorite Beatles album (that would be Revolver/Rubber Soul), but it’s always been my favorite Beatles album cover. I didn’t know what to make of the album when it came out, but then I was only 12.
It's not my favourite either - Abbey Road (with the White Album a very, very close second) takes that place. Revolver is outstanding, too. But if we're talking album covers ... Sgt Pepper pretty much takes top billing. Though Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon might just be nudging it out of top place ...
I'm torn between Abbey Road and the White Album ... While both Revolver and Rubber Soul are outstanding, 'Cry Baby Cry' is to my mind one of the best songs ever written. Not to mention 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' or 'Julia' ... but, if a gun was to my head, it'd have to be Abbey Road. Solid all the way through.
Sweet, another great one. If I'm not mistaken I think Paul plays guitar on the title track, not just bass.

I agree, Abbey Road is my favourite Beatles album with Revolver and Rubber Soul close behind.
