Thanks! Your dramatic monologue version was entertaining - I especially liked the way you made sure your readers know it's not you who's talking. Separating the author from the narrative voice is - to my mind - a given, but it seems to have become a default to assume the character is the author and vice-versa. Which is a shame, on so many levels.

Yes - the Norton anthology is great. I've still got my Volumes 1 and 2 from 1988 and occasionally dip into them. I also tend to default to Norton versions of whatever it is I'm teaching. They're just so ... thorough.
