You've given me something to seek out someday... soon. I'm thinking, North of Vegas, Colorado, or Utah... Maybe all three. I'm in Los Angeles, so they make the most sense.

Regarding the Attenborough quote:

We have an orb weaver spider who has set up shop to the left of our front door. Over the past two months, I've spent an inordinate amount of time watching her rebuild her web in the evening. I've even watched her catch prey a few times. Brutal and beautiful. We've named her Agnes.

But more profound is the conversations Deb and I have about how frail a species we are in comparison. If left without our comforts and community, left to build a habitat and provide enough food to live, we'd be sunk.

I'm also going to search out a Golden Spike when I can - I split (not evenly, by a long shot) my time between North Carolina and England (where I live), so locations are quite rare. However, if I'm ever in an area which is near one, it'll be on the list!

I like your orb spider reference. I used to have friends who had a ramshackle house up in the mountains. On a hot summer's night we'd all sit outside drinking and smoking and listening to music while watching various moths, etc get trapped in the many, many webs that covered the nooks and crannies on the porch. It was amazing, the speed with which the spiders would react to the trigger and descend upon their prey. We didn't name any spiders, though -

And yes, we'd be screwed as a species if we had to do anything practical to live!

You know me Bryan, I thought: I’ll go out and visit one of those golden spikes. But there really aren’t many of them, are there? Loved the video too.

I thought the same. But they're definitely not as accessible as labyrinths. If I am ever in a place where one can be found, though ....

Glad you liked the video! I thought it was fun.
