Very glad you liked it! It was fun putting the list together - I was impressed at how fresh it all sounded, considering it's all around 30 years old! I guess that's just proof that those were good days!
Clear white moon of an article, Bryan. I grew up with hip hop and it’s still a mid-life pleasure. Have evolved my tastes to newer versions and also v happy about distinctive UK sounds that play on repetition as part of the fun. Have you heard Stormzy’s Big For Your Boots?
Glad you liked it (and nice 'Regulate' reference, by the way)! I was a relatively latecomer to hip hop - Yo! MTV Raps was the only source when I was a teen and for many years that hour was more than enough. But when Dre and g-funk arrived, things changed. Luckily, by that time I'd expanded my mind so that I was more than happy to explore any number of music styles - and it all just fit perfectly. I've worked on my tastes and still do - my children (especially my 16 y/o) bombard me with new tracks, and I them - but, while I have no problem with repetition, at times I just think a judicious editing wouldn't hurt. Yes, I've heard the Stormzy track and it's great - repetition at its finest, I'd say! Very glad to have you riding The Bus, Adrian!
Loved this article! This was the soundtrack of my college/early career years...it was a (bunch of) very good day(s).
