Fascinating read, Bryan! It’s always amazing to me how a war can change the very foundations of society. We focus so much on what was won/lost that the reweaving of the social fabric is often overlooked.

Thanks! I'm very glad you liked it. It was an odd discovery (like the best ones are) - we were up in Cumbria and decided to drive into Scotland since we were so close, and Gretna Green was the first town over the border. As we drove through, I saw this sign announcing 'Devil's Porridge' - and immediately thought it was some sort of Scottish oat-based food, which it certainly wasn't. We didn't have a chance to go to the museum, but the next time we're up there it's on the list.

Great Detour selection. You are so right in that the graphic arts fit the song nicely.

"Sympathy for the Devil" fits right in there with cordite.

Fascinating, Bryan! I'm a little alarmed that you seem to have given away the recipe....!

Glad you liked it! And as for the recipe ... if anyone is able to create cordite from what I've said, I'd be VERY impressed indeed!
