Thanks, Bryan! Really enjoyed your article on akrasia and the linked interview with Mele. He was my academic advisor at Davidson. Excellent teacher.

Thanks, Lindsey! Great to hear from you. I was just talking to my daughter about digging in Cyprus a couple of days ago - far too much time has passed. Yes - Mele was brilliant. I just wish I'd taken more of his courses. Hope you're well!

Very interesting stuff, as always, Bryan. Rutherford's book sounds like some fascinating reading. I may have to see if the local library has it.

Now I'm wondering if akrasia is the root word, or linguistically related to, crazy/crazed. Hm. After a brief search there does not appear to be a link!

I know - it seems rather obvious that it should be the origin. I looked, too - seems that 'crazy' has completely different roots. As you say, hmm ...

Thanks, Joel! Great to hear from you - and glad you liked the Dead issue! That one was fun - but as I got into it I realised just how complicated they were. It was actually one of those 'shit - I don't know what to focus on' moments. I thought about individual albums, but none of them are really representative (I mean, Anthem of the Sun is great, as are Bear's Choice, Workingman's Dead and American Beauty ... and then there's Mars Hotel, Blues for Allah, all those individual Garcia albums, Bob Weir's Ace ... hell. How do you choose?) ... and how do you recommend a single Dick's or Dave's Picks? It boggles the mind. Anyway, I decided on the overview with the proviso that I'll be doing individual issues on Robert Hunter and John Perry Barlow in the future - can't have the Dead without them. Hope you're well - find me the next time you're in the UK!
