Yep. REALLY enjoyed the songs and especially the sequence. Spanish Fly played right into Angie seamlessly. (I feel Angie is a song John McClane would love and enthusiastically sing using wrong words.) I am in awe of Mark Knopfler's lyrical guitar play - in many songs. Your track made me think of another of my DS favorites - "On Every Street." Give that a play and I bet you will do a repeat immediately. Then there is Peter Frampton. "Frampton Comes Alive" was the second double-album I purchased. That set was played into the dirt and the two-side cover saw its share of action also. The first double-album in my collection was Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band's "Live Bullet" recorded in Detroit's Cobo Hall. I highly recommend you give a listen to the "Travelin' Man/Beautiful Loser" track.

Really like the image of John McClane singing 'Angie' inaccurately! I listened to 'On Every Street' Saturday afternoon in the car after dropping my son and his friend off at golf. An amazing song. I bought the album when it was released - but, like so many, it's been languishing in a box in my (depending on where we were living) house, attic or garage for the last 20 years. But ... since September, it - and all the others - have been cleaned and (more or less) catalogued and are gradually being played! And on a good system, CDs sound so much better than streaming.

As for the Seger tracks - I don't think I've ever heard them, but am listening to them as I write this and - yet again - wondered how I missed them. Damn. Especially as I fully appreciate the value of a two-sided album cover.

Back in the day ...

My wife and I started doing Advent Calendars last year and it's something I think we'll keep as a tradition.

I know it's controversial, but I still consider "Die Hard" a Christmas film because John MacLain believes it's better to give (@$$ whippings) than receive! :) A great recommendation, though.

Thank you for the shout-out and I'm in some great company. There are so many talented and funny writers here on Substack that it's tough to find them all. I always am appreciative when someone enjoys reading my little newsletter :)

We have several Advent Calendars - the kids each have a Cadbury one, there's a Santa with 24 pockets that my wife had when she was a child - chocolates in there, one my mother made my daughter 17 years ago which has these little board books about a mouse family getting ready for Christmas and one that has home-made clues to locate our version of Elf on the Shelf. He's usually in the laundry basket. It's fun - and not only gets everyone in the 'Christmas mood' but preserves a bit of childhood as they get too old ...

Great explanation for the reason DH is a Christmas film - never thought of it like that! And you're welcome for the shout-out - I always look forward to reading your post!

Can’t wait to get home from work travel, pour some red and dial up that playlist!

Nice sharing some good and relevant sub stack posts - love Robert and Dan and really look forward to checking out the others I don’t know. Love baseball and the Red Sox! (Boston fans are more than half the allure.)

I hope that playlist was as enjoyable as it sounds like you were hoping it'd be! It's one of my favourites so far - the Frampton track just popped into my head the other morning; I haven't listened to it in decades. But, damn, what a tune. And the Dire Straits track is just ... exquisite. One of their best, in my opinion. Yeah - check out the three recommendations (and the Zappagram and Herb Sundays are solid providers of music ideas - not always what I'd choose (Herb Sundays can be very NYC dj-focussed) but there's always some nugget to keep.

The Recovering Academic is an excellent letter - and Joshua's happy to engage in conversation, too. As for H.A.T. - I truly mean it when I say I look forward to receiving them. They're always interesting - I don't know how you find the people you interview, but you've got a gift there.

Oh Bryan, I hated Peter Frampton when I was a young lad (I was 12 when this album came out) but it hit me right in the sweet spot this morning! Today’s writing is to your soundtrack! Thank you

Yes, Frampton is one of those love/hate musicians. I can't say I was ever a fan - at all. Show Me the Way? Blech. But THIS track ... I hadn't heard it in decades until the other morning. And I don't know why it popped into my head. At first I was going to save it for a 'long-players' or 'great live tracks' list, but it just had to be included. Hope the soundtrack helped your writing!
